This stunning residence underwent a £6.5m renovation in 1997 under the watchful eye of English Heritage. A number of specialist companies including those who were involved in the Windsor Castle restoration were brought in, together with an 18th century building historian who advised on aspects of the decor such as the chandeliers and the wall-coverings, which were all hand-painted with period designs unique for the building.
